Personality: The first thing one should know about Kakeru is that he is completely enamoured by the idea of being a hero. He even goes as far as saying he is one. It’s not to say that this is a baseless declaration because being a hero is pretty much part of his and who he is. Simply put, Kakeru is selfless and protective. These traits are evident through his actions as well as the reason he accepted his being a Chosen driver of a Gyrozetter so easily. When Rinne asked why he did not worry about getting hurt doing something so dangerous, he replied that it was better for him to be hurt than others. Even without saying this, it’s obvious because on countless times, he’s constantly rushing to save others when they’re in trouble or to fight the antagonists, Zenon. In fact, in the very first episode, when Rinne was threatened by Touma’s Gyrozetter (who is an agent of Zenon), he immediately went to her aid without a second thought despite the fact that he had no method whatsoever to save her from a giant transforming robot. Of course it worked out in the end because the new car he got from his school, Arcadia, was also a Gyrozetter. Then again, good instinct and dumb luck are also things heroes seem to possess.

His belief that he is a hero leads him to doing things recklessly, such as going into dangerous situations without being fully aware of the risks or even a plan on how to solve it. He also enjoys doing things in a flashy manner because according to him, it’s “more heroic.” It is possible that he acts this way because he enjoys being in the limelight as well. Being loud or doing outrageous things seem to be an effort of drawing attention to himself.

Kakeru is incredibly energetic. There is rarely a time when he doesn’t have a large grin plastered across his face and when he does things he enjoys, he’s very enthusiastic and puts his entire being into it. If there is a chance for him to say something is awesome, he will take it. This is part of his immense honesty though. He is high emotion and doesn’t seem to have a brain to mouth filter so sometimes the things he say just happen. The good side of this is that with only a few words he was able to cheer Rinne up when she was embarrassed about her dream of being an Olympic figure skater but the bad side is, he tends to say things that are not quite appropriate for the situation.

Nevertheless, his easy acceptance and open personality make it easy for him to befriend others. Just by looking at the people surrounding him, it’s easy to tell that he gets along with most of them, even Shunsuke, a fellow Chosen driver. Despite the fact that they did not get along at first and the fact that they still argue, there is trust between them and they make a formidable team in battles. In fact, their clashing personalities bring out the best in each other by making them want to improve in order to one up the other.

Of his friends, he is the closest to Michinori and Rinne. The latter is a childhood friend and the former is arguably his best friend. He cares deeply for them and it shows in how willing he is to aid them, whether it’s promising to protect Rinne or to defend Michinori against the teachers. Even Satori, the fifth Chosen driver, is treated in a friendly way by him when he meets her for the first time. He stands up for her as well when the teachers doubt who she is. This shows that he can be incredibly trusting of others, which we see again in how he believes the things is teachers say easily in regards to Gyrozetters. Then again, just because he takes what his elders say as true doesn’t mean he will do what that say. Kakeru does things his own way and if orders don’t agree with him, he has no problem disregarding them. He doesn’t hesitate to do what he thinks is right and part of this is because he’s very confident in himself. It’s become common for him to tell others to rely on him and to leave fighting battles up to him. There is even and instance where he takes on several enemies at once, fully confident that he can beat them all.

Kakeru is still young though and the fact that he's only eleven shows. Despite his heroics, he can be very childish and will complain when things don't go his way. Usually he does this in the most annoyingly obnoxious way possible, for example wailing as Rinne drags him off to do work when he wants to eat instead. Also, he hates being scolded. It doesn't matter who it is, either. If he thinks he is being singled out unfairly, he will complain. Thankfully, these moments don't last long because while he is prone to acting like a brat, Kakeru bounces between emotions quickly. This is seen when the chosen drivers are required to do training during a school break. At first, Kakeru whines but once he finds out that the training takes place at Mt. Fuji he recovers instantaneously and becomes excited.

Since he acts based on emotions, he is very easy to provoke. If the right things are said, it doesn't take long to make him become angry. Also, it doesn't matter whether he's upset or happy, Kakeru can have a very one track mind. Once he sets out to do something, then he intends to achieve his goal. This makes him a fierce fighter in battle, one that doesn't know how to give up.

Powers/Abilities: In canon, Kakeru is a skillful driver both of normal AI cars and Gyrozetters. It is shown that what a Gyrozetter can do (with the exception of their special attacks) is based on the driver's knowledge so it is probably safe to say that Kakeru actually does know what he's doing when he is fighting. What he lacks in skills he makes up for his ability to think on the spot and come up with compromises. He knows what he needs to do in battle and is willing to team up with someone he doesn't get along with in order to win.

Kakeru is also able to learn very quickly. Usually, he doesn't even need to be taught. Driving a Gyrozetter seems to come natural to him and he adapts to the machine easily. After all, he was the first one at Arcadia able to activate a transformation. Everything he can do in a Gyrozetter is self taught and learned through observation of how the enemies used their Gyrozetters. The same applies to driving. While Kakeru is competent at driving, he is very sloppy and lacks finesse. But when he is able to observe Shunsuke's driving, he mimics the other boy and is able to improve his own driving in the middle of a race, putting himself on par with Shunsuke, a world champion racer.

SAMPLES
First Person: We’d like to see of sample of your playing! Feel free to link a post/thread from another game, dressing room, or musebox. We’d like to see at least ten comments from your character in the thread/post. If you don’t have anything to link, please write an example entry. You may include multiple entries if you feel that one doesn't cover enough of your character’s personality.

Third Person: Sleepless, he rolls over onto his back and stares up at the ceiling. Judging from the quiet snoring coming from the bed beside him, he figures his roommate is already asleep. Times like this when he’s alone is the worst because despite the fact that this is his life now, being a magician in training at Magnoshutatt, he can’t help but think about the life he left behind.

It’s his policy to keep moving forward no matter what and this is no exception. Suddenly appearing in a strange new place with no memory of how he got there is definitely disorienting and more than that, frustrating, because he doesn’t know how to go back but he quickly accepts his situation. He goes to the classes that are expected of him, makes friends with others, whether they’re displaced like he is or not and tries to keep cheerful.

Now though, there are no distractions to keep him from wondering how everyone he knew are. He lifts a hand and reaches up towards the ceiling then closes it into a fist. They had depended on him back home, depending on him to pilot Raibird and to save the world from Zenon.

“Wonder if this was on that rock. ‘Warning, the hero will suddenly disappear halfway through so he can be taught magic,’” he mumbles quietly to himself before snorting. “Sounds crazy, even to me.”

He lets his hand drop and rests both on his stomach but continues to stare at the ceiling. “Mom, dad, Rinne. You all better be okay. I’m doing alright and I’ll find a way back as fast as I can before you guys get into too much trouble. Like a real hero, I’ll be there just in time!”

One last grin up at the ceiling then he turns over on his side and pulls the blankets up so that that cover his head in an effort to force himself to sleep. He’s Todoroki Kakeru and he needs to make the best of a bad situation because it’ll all work out in the end somehow. At least, he hopes it will.
